Plan around the heat, not the clock. Mid-August highs run well over 100°F. The pattern that works: outdoors early morning, indoors or in the pool from late morning to about 5 PM, back outside after dark.

Worth leaving the Strip for
🌵Red Rock Canyon — about 30 minutes west. Genuinely beautiful, and a completely different Nevada from the Strip. In August this is an early morning only activity; by 10 AM it is unpleasant and by noon it is dangerous. The scenic drive may need a timed entry reservation, so check before driving out.Sunrise, or not at all
🎨Area15 / Omega Mart — immersive art complex a few minutes west of the Strip. Entirely indoors, deeply strange, and a good group activity in the heat of the afternoon.Afternoon
💡Neon Museum — the old Vegas signs, downtown. Outdoors, so book the last slot of the evening.After dark
🏙️Fremont Street — downtown, about 15 minutes by car. Loud, cheap, and a different flavor than the Strip. Best at night.Evening
